On the weekend of Saturday 4 July, Rebound athletes headed south from their usual Brisbane stomping ground to take on the Gold Coast Marathon (half and full).

For mum of two, Tahlia, it wasn’t about accomplishing a milestone marathon distance – a feat that less than 1% of the global population is thought to have achieved. It was about setting out to do something she loved.

Running is more than a race, it changed my life. While I was pregnant with my second baby, I set a goal to run a half marathon. I had only run 5km prior to that and I was about 50kgs heavier than my usual weight. I found a plan online, followed it, running that half marathon was one of the proudest moments of my life.

Since then she's run three half marathons, two full marathons and 12 triathlons. Her goal this time was different: she wanted to run this marathon and enjoy doing it.

Needless to say, Tahlia did more than just that. She had a Rebound training plan, stuck to it and shaved an hour off her personal best. Did we mention she also set a new 2km personal best at the end of her marathon? That’s right, the end of a whopping 42.2km run. Way to go Tahlia!

Her training campaign consisted of key milestone races: Brisbane Road Runners 10km and Brisbane Half Marathon. She achieved PBs for both races.

The race was a huge success and a testament to an incredible training campaign – thanks Kent! It gave me the ultimate confidence boost. It was also great to stack those PBs before the main event.

So, what made it so enjoyable? Beyond a killer race plan *wink wink*.

Community. It made the greatest impact on race day, especially seeing the crew, my friends, cheering for me on the sidelines. You can see by the photos how much it meant to me.

A community Tahlia joined just over a year ago.

At first, when I joined Rebound I was a little intimidated, but after a few long rides I felt part of the community. Now I consider Rebound to be my family. Training with a community is everything! I looked forward to training because it was more than kilometres, it was connection.

Community, built on showing up not just for yourself but for those around you — as Tahlia found out.

Warming up with the Rebound crew at the start of the day, getting final words of wisdom from Kent. Running past the crew tent and hearing the cheers. I felt so lucky to have my close friends, who I met through Rebound, by my side too. Clare sent me texts throughout the race that I was hearing through my AirPods. Lucy and Eliza also ran with me for a km at the 40km mark. It gave me the biggest boost.

Why join Rebound's running programs? For Tahlia, the progress and friends made along the way speak for themselves.

Honestly, I can’t even believe the progress I have made in this marathon training block. Every session I would surprise myself when I checked my Strava. I trusted the process, followed the plan, and came away with three race PBs, and counting, and lifelong friends.

Joining Rebound was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Thank you Kent for everything you do for us. You’re changing lives.

Don’t just take Tahlia’s – very kind – word for it. Come along to a session and see the power of the Rebound community for yourself. Warning, you may come away with more than a PB.
